Finally arrived!
But I am still not registered, although I did go to the bank this morning to transfer money from my account to the school's bank account. What a big relief to have finally taken care of that!
From the bank, I took the receipt saying that I paid my tuition, and brought it to the International Office. Not much they can do with it yet, since the money hasn't actually turned up in the school's account yet, but they said they would take care of it, and I should show up tomorrow, and they will have my enrollment pack for me. YAY!
Oh, but wait! The enrollment pack is not everything I hoped it would be, because it does not go into effect for another 24 hours. So I still have to wait until Wednesday to get registered for my classes, to apply for a work visa, to get on to the school's computers. Bah!
It looks like every class I have is at night, which is not really to my liking. Not only will I not get to go to my Rotary's meetings until Week 7, but I like to get up early in the morning, and go to class to get it out of the way. Hopefully, I will be able to find a job or an internship or something productive for the day time, because I definitely don't want to spend it sleeping in!
My Monday class (from 5pm until 8pm) is Clinical Mycology, Virology, and Parasitology. With a different lecturer for each section. In theory, this is a good idea because each lecturer specializes in that field. But in practice, a lot of times I have noticed that there is no continuity throughout the course, and just as you've adapted to one professor's style of teaching, they are replaced with the next. I am hoping that this will not be the case here, but we shall see.
The lecture was not too bad for an introductory lecture. The professor works in a pathology lab which I found very comparable to working at Broward Testing Laboratory. But there was some new things to be learned, as well as some research I will have to do on my own to clarify some things I did not understand. There is no textbook for this course (both a good thing and a bad thing), but there were some recommended reading that I might have to check out from the library (if I ever can check books out!)
The walk home was a little bit creepy, walking through the woods at night, but it was decently lit, and there were other students walking home as well. It was also pretty chilly, so tomorrow I will have to bring a jacket. I know there is some kind of security shuttle, so I will have to find out more about that tomorrow.
